Acqua Vergine: The Solution to Rome's Water Challenges
Acqua Vergine: The Solution to Rome's Water Challenges Rome’s very first raised aqueduct, Aqua Anio Vetus, was built in 273 BC; prior to that, inhabitants residing at higher elevations had to depend on natural streams for their water.
Over this time period, there were only 2 other systems capable of providing water to elevated areas, subterranean wells and cisterns, which accumulated rainwater. Starting in the sixteenth century, a brand new strategy was introduced, using Acqua Vergine’s subterranean sectors to supply water to Pincian Hill. As originally constructed, the aqueduct was provided along the length of its channel with pozzi (manholes) constructed at regular intervals. Though they were primarily manufactured to make it possible to support the aqueduct, Cardinal Marcello Crescenzi started using the manholes to gather water from the channel, opening when he obtained the property in 1543. The cistern he had built to obtain rainwater wasn’t adequate to meet his water requirements. Via an orifice to the aqueduct that flowed underneath his property, he was able to satisfy his water demands.
Bernini’s First Italian Water Fountains
Bernini’s First Italian Water Fountains The Barcaccia, Bernini's very first fountain, is a magnificent chef d'oeuvre built at the base of the Trinita dei Monti in Piaza di Spagna. Roman locals and site seers who enjoy verbal exchanges as well as being the company of others still go to this spot. One of the city’s most fashionable gathering spots are the streets surrounding Bernini's fountain, which would certainly have brought a smile to the great Bernini. The master's first fountain of his career was built at around 1630 at the request of Pope Urbano VIII. People can now see the fountain as a depiction of a great ship gradually sinking into the Mediterranean. The great 16th century flooding of the Tevere, which left the entire region inundated with water, was memorialized by the fountain according to documents from the period. In 1665 Bernini journeyed to France, in what was to be his sole extended absence from Italy.

Ancient Greece: Cultural Sculpture
Ancient Greece: Cultural Sculpture Nearly all sculptors were paid by the temples to enhance the elaborate pillars and archways with renderings of the gods up until the period came to a close and many Greeks began to think of their religion as superstitious rather than sacred, when it became more typical for sculptors to portray ordinary people as well. Sometimes, a depiction of wealthy families' forefathers would be commissioned to be located within huge familial tombs, and portraiture, which would be duplicated by the Romans upon their conquering of Greek civilization, also became commonplace. The usage of sculpture and other art forms varied through the many years of The Greek Classical period, a time of artistic progress when the arts had more than one goal. Whether to fulfill a visual desire or to commemorate the figures of religion, Greek sculpture was an imaginative method in the ancient world, which could be what attracts our attention currently.
