It is easy for foreign items to find their way into open-air fountains, so keeping it clean is important. Also, algae has a tendency to build up anywhere natural light meets water. To avoid this, take vinegar, hydrogen peroxide, or sea salt and add directly into the water. Some people opt for pouring bleach into the water, but the problem is that it harms wildlife - so it should be avoided. Every 3-4 months, garden fountains should go through a decent cleaning. The first task is to get rid of all of the water. Then use a soft rag and gentle cleanser to scrub the inside. If there are any little grooves, use a toothbrush to get every spot. Be sure to thoroughly rinse the inner surface of the fountain to make sure all the soap is gone.
