The Impact of the Norman Conquest on Anglo-Saxon Landscaping The introduction of the Normans in the 2nd half of the 11th century irreparably transformed The Anglo-Saxon lifestyle. One of these terraces, a charming bowling green, is covered grass and flanked by an old yew hedge trimmed into the figure of crude battlements.

For the most part the statues, or kouros figures, were of young and desirable male or female (kore) Greeks. Representing beauty to the Greeks, the kouroi were designed to appear stiff and typically had foot forward; the males were healthy, powerful, and nude. The kouroi started to be life-sized beginning in 650 BC. A significant era of transformation for the Greeks, the Archaic period brought about newer forms of government, expressions of art, and a greater comprehension of people and customs outside of Greece. During this time and other periods of historic tumult, clashes often happened, among them battles fought between city-states such as the Arcadian wars and the Spartan infiltration of Samos.
